Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry you are constipated.

Dr. David :

you need to be drinking lots of fluids.

Dr. David :

and you need to continue to use these ducolax suppository

Dr. David :

and also add on a laxative like miralax (polyethylene glycol)

Dr. David :

you might also need to use a fleet enema to help get your stools to move as well.

Dr. David :

but using these laxatives and suppositories and enemas will pull water and fluid from your blood system, so that is why you have to make sure you are drinking lots and lots of water so there is water to pull from your blood system into your bowels.

Dr. David :

this water is what will help start to move the bowels and get things moving again.

Dr. David :

if you can't get this constipation to move, you can go to the hospital or emergency room and see a nurse there who can help give you IV fluids and help give you laxatives or enemas to help move your bowels as well.

Dr. David :

does this information help?

Dr. David :

let me know if you have questions.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : Yes , but is it normal to feel a blockage still hours after using the suppository I thoght there would be no need to strain as a result of the dulcolax
Dr. David :

it sounds like you are quite severely constipated.

Dr. David :

you still have stool in there that needs to come out.

Dr. David :

you will need to drink lots of water and continue to use the dulcolax and add on an oral laxative

Dr. David :

to continue to push out the rest of the constipated stool in there.

Dr. David :

you might be dehydrated

Dr. David :

so your bowels are not pulling enough water into your bowels to move and push out all of the stool.

Dr. David :

are you willing to drink more water and continue to use the dulcolax twice a day

Dr. David :

and add on an oral laxative like miralax (polyethylene glycol)?

Dr. David :

hello?

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : yes I did get a bit more stool out but it hurt to try & I still feel slight pressure on back pasage
Dr. David :

I see

Dr. David :

it can be a tough process if you are severely constipated.

Dr. David :

it can take several days to get all of the stool out.

Dr. David :

drinking more water, eating prunes, adding on an oral laxative can help.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : even with a suppository.
Dr. David :

yes, even with a suppository.

Dr. David :

just a suppository sometimes is not enough.

Dr. David :

does this help?

Dr. David :

do you have other questions?

Dr. David :

or you can go to the hospital and ask for help from one of the nurses there.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : i was just worried that there could be something serious wrong
Dr. David :

no, it just sounds like you are very very constipated.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : its the middle of night so can't go 2 hospital , I just thought the dulcolax would take away pressure to go
Dr. David :

I am sorry that the dulcolax wasn't able to fix the constipation completely

Dr. David :

but you can continue to try tonight or early tomorrow.

Dr. David :

with drinking more water, going to the drug store to get a laxative

Dr. David :

and you can try another dulcolax in the morning as well.

Dr. David :

and you can also try 1/2-1 cup of magnesium citrate to drink to help move your bowels as well

Dr. David :

but you have to make sure you are drinking lots of water

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : just not sure if I should take any more laxative as it seems to have made my back passage feel sore
Dr. David :

I see.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : is it often the case that one suppository does not work. And leaves you feeling sore
Dr. David :

yes,

Dr. David :

this can happen if you are severely constipated.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : should I take the same one again or add another. One and if so which one would work most gently with dulcolax
Dr. David :

you can use another dulcolax suppository and add a senna laxative or dulcolax laxative orally as well.

Dr. David :

and make sure you drink more water.

Dr. David :

you can also take colace 100mg which is a stool softener as well which could help.

Dr. David :

Dulcolax Laxative contains bisacodyl

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : Should I take the same one or add another that would help it work more gently
Dr. David :

you should take the same suppository and add on something else as well

Dr. David :

you should add on dulocolax laxative or a senna laxative

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : I seem to have lost Your conversation
Dr. David :

I am still here.

Dr. David :

hello?

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : So use another suppo and dulcolax tablets also. Will the result be very sore
Dr. David :

you can have some soreness.

Dr. David :

but if you drink more water and use a stool softener that could help.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : what Senna laxative do you suggest
Dr. David :

whatever one you have in your drug store or chemist store.

Dr. David :

senna laxatives vary from country to country.

Dr. David :

do you have any other questions?

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : iso it's not too severe to use both
Dr. David :

no, it is not too severe

Dr. David :

but you have to drink a lot of water.

Dr. David :

are you drinking a lot of water?

Dr. David :

you should drink 4-6 glasses of water per day. at least

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : I drink about 4 2 5 glasses of green tea
Dr. David :

the green tea has caffeine in it and is not as good as water

Dr. David :

try to drink more fluids tomorrow.

JACUSTOMER-6om58zz5- : ok I will try water , thoght caffeine helped to stimulate boewl
Dr. David :

well, it is not working to stimulate your bowels

Dr. David :

when you use laxatives and suppositories you dont' want caffeine since it dehydrates you.

Dr. David :

good luck to you

Dr. David :

I am still staring and there is some pale. Pink blood coming down I do have pies , but I'm worried
Expert:  Dr. David replied 2 years ago.
I see

severe constipation can cause hemorrhoids to bleed.

I know you are still straining.

make sure you are drinking lots of water

and use another suppository and take an oral laxative

and go to the drug store to buy some more stool softeners and also buy an fleet enema to use

you shoul also buy some magnesium citrate and you can use 1/2-1 cup of this 1-2 times a day to help you move your bowels as well

and you will need to buy some steroid cream to help reduce the swelling of yoru hemorrhoids as well

so several things to pick up at the local drug store.
