hello, I have a problem with bladder weakness, I'm 33 years

Resolved Question:

hello, I have a problem with bladder weakness, I'm 33 years old woman and have had minor urine infections for the past year, my bladder weakness seems to get worse towards my period and I am now at the stage where I have bladder leakage everyday, even if it's a few drops.. I am needing to go to the toilet even when I haven't had anything to drink!

Dr Basu :

Hi there, This is Dr Basu, Experienced Specialist. I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Customer:

hello

Dr Basu :

Hi thee.

Dr Basu :

the first thing is to rule out any persistent bladder infection

Dr Basu :

Antibiotic course will help in that case.

Dr Basu :

The next possibility is the stress or urge incontinence.

Dr Basu :

This can be due to the either sphincter relaxation or inappropriate bladder contractions.v

Customer:

I have had three course of antibiotics and it doesn't resolve the issue

Dr Basu :

This can be checked by the urodynamic studies by a urologist.

Dr Basu :

Then you have the second possibility the mixed urinary incontinence.

Dr Basu :

This can develop from the weakening of the bladder sphincter and also inappropriate contractions of the bladder.

Dr Basu :

This can be corrected by the Pelvic floor exercises.

Dr Basu :

Kegel's exercises.

Dr Basu :

you can google that term for visual demonstration.

Dr Basu :

The next option is to use bladder specific medication.

Dr Basu :

Oxybutynine is a commonly used medication with lot of success.

Dr Basu :

5 to 10 mg daily should be adequate.

Customer:

I do kegel exercises

Dr Basu :

avoid caffeine, alcohol, and high sugar containig foods

Dr Basu :

also please get checked for diabetes.

Customer:

but I have never had a child

Dr Basu :

high blood sugar can cause this problem sometimes as another cause.

Dr Basu :

even without child you can have bladder dusfunction.

Dr Basu :

and lastly this is uncommon but should be taken into consideration.

Dr Basu :

rule out any bladder tumor or polyps.

Dr Basu :

that can interfere with bladder function as well.

Dr Basu :

Cystoscopy is considered for that .

Customer:

I have PCOS

Dr Basu :

Oxybutynine is your next step if all else is fine.

Dr Basu :

PCOS should not be the problem here

Customer:

Okay thank you! So when I see my doctor what should I ask.. they keep proscribing anti-biotics

Customer:

and it's not helping

Customer:

feeling very fustrated

Dr Basu :

ask for Oxybutynine 5 mg

Dr Basu :

available in long acting form

Dr Basu :

works 24 hours

Dr Basu :

and then you should see a urologist as well.

Customer:

okay great thank you so much for your help!

Dr Basu :

very welcome
