This is Dr. David
it most likely does not mean anything.
he is getting chemotherapy currently
any sort of inflammation can cause CEA levels to go up to 9.
it does not mean his colon cancer is spreading. or progressing.
Well he was 9.8 in sept , oct 8 (it dropped in oct for some odd reason whilat chemo was stopped - xeloda ).and today was 9.
With chemo if working cea should be decreasing
Initially when it started rising from 3,4,6,8
That's when them
That's when the liver met and node was found
that CEA level of 9 is still very low.
But the increae of 1 poimg while
But the increase on 1 point from 8 to 9 while on chemo means that the tumor not shrinking ?
no, it does not mean that.
it could be from inflammation from the chemo.
How many cycles does it take for chemo to start having an effect ?
that varies from patient to patient.
Should it wworl
Should it work by 2 cycles?
the only way to know is to get another CT scan.
Could it be the folfirI nlt
Could it be thy folfiri does not work ?
I would not try to read too much in to the CEA levels.
Have you had cases where folfiri does not work on ppl? I though with limited mets it would work better ?
yes, for some people the foluri does not work and the cancer grows and spreads.
Even enough there was 1 met and 1 node met do far could it still
Could it still
yes, there is a chance it could still not work.
Does it usually work in 80-90 percent of ppl?
I was expecting the cea to drop
the percentage is usually not that high.
more like 50/50%
Should it start working from 2 cycles?
there is no evidence that the chemo is not working now.
CEA up to 9 does not mean the chemo is not working.
I'm getting myself in a panic over everything right
