This is Dr. David
her behavior is not acceptable and she needs to be seeing a therapist and a psychiaatrist at this point.
her GP doctor should be referring her to see a psychotherapist to talk about these issues to see why she is going these things.
this could be an extreme case of teen age rebellion, but other medical and mental conditions have to be checked for.
Her school has referred her to CAMHS but as well as that we need to know if it a physical thing. Her mother was very similar at the same age. She has ended up with many issues, especially social communication and depression. She has an addictive personality.
physical causes are rare.
she should have her thyroid hormone levels checked and routine blood levels checked.
but it could very well be behavioral or mental issues at play if her mother went through a very similar course at her age.
the granddaughter might need to go on mood stabilizing or antidepression medications to help.
I hope she gets the counseling she needs.
do you have any other questions?
Yes please just one. What would you suggest we do about the blood tests as her doctor doesn't seem to be very helpful.
you can ask for a follow up appointment and ask for reconsideration for the blood testing.
and ask for routine testing to check her B12 levels and thyroid hormone levels.
or you can pay for private blood testing in the UK outside of the NHS as well.
but most likely these blood test will show normal levels.
let me know if you have other questions.
