This is Dr. David
I am so sorry about the loss of your wife.
pulmonary edema most commonly comes from heart failure or weakness of the heart, usually from a heart attack which causes heart muscle damage and then the heart can not pump fluid around the body.
this can lead to fluid backing up in the lungs (pulmonary edema) and also swelling in the legs (peripheral edema)
there is a good chance she could have developed a silent heart attack while she was in bed for 10 weeks.
an autopsy after her death could look at her heart to check for signs of heart attack.
when patients are found to have pulmonary edema, which is new, the heart and looking for signs of a heart attack are the first things to look for.
I am sorry she suffered from mental health problems as well. this can make things more difficult.
and even if a heart attack was found, they could have given her medications to lower her blood pressure, but she would not have been able to cardiac rehabilitation either it sounds like
