Dr.Customer:

Hi, and thank you for coming here with your question.

Dr.Customer:

I'm sure you came here because that level is very high. Did you have a specific question or did you just want me to tell you what the possibilities can be?

Dr.Customer:

Can you tell me why the level was taken at all? Also, do you have any other medical problems? Take any medication? Drink Alcohol? Use recreational drugs?

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

this is the second test within a month where it has gone up reason for seening gp was diarrhoea some 6 weeks ago and now have constipation

Dr.Customer:

Do you have any other medical problems?

Dr.Customer:

I have paused the timer so that you won't be charged extra when we have just started our conversation.

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

high blood pressure and high cholesterol controlled with drugs

Dr.Customer:

what medications do you take for these?

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

lisopril 10 mgs and simvastin 40mgs

Dr.Customer:

Do you drink alcohol?

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

yes

Dr.Customer:

About how much per day?

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

1/2 bottle of wine per day

Dr.Customer:

Thank you for the information.

Dr.Customer:

There are a number of things that can cause a high ferritin level, and from what you've told me it sounds like you have done some damage to your liver.

Dr.Customer:

How many tubes (and if you remember what color top) were taken when you had the blood test done?

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

2 1 yellow and 1 red

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

also us scan was normal abdominal

Dr.Customer:

Do you know if they checked your entire blood work - including your liver?

Dr.Customer:

Okay - that is good news (about a normal ultrasound)

Dr.Customer:

Infection and inflammation (both which would be common in diarrhea) can raise ferritin levels. But if you were my patient I would not be satisfied with that answer alone and I'd have another blood test done in a few weeks.

Dr.Customer:

Hyperthyroidism can also cause you to have high ferrritin levels.

Dr.Customer:

I don't remember if I mentioned alcoholism can cause it.

Dr.Customer:

The last two are an infection of the heart muscle (which it doesn't seem like you have), and various cancers.

Dr.Customer:

The course of action that I would take would be to stop drinking for a few weeks and repeat the blood test then. If the number has dropped then the chance would be it was elevated because your liver was being compromised. If the level is still high then other things (such as various malignancies) would need to be checked.

JACUSTOMER-c7fgjpzg- :

thanks goodbye

Dr.Customer:

Have a great day.

Dr.Customer:

Please let me know if you need anything further

Dr.Customer:

my goal is to give you excellent service.
