Dear Customer, Thanks quick additional information.
I can understand your concern.
Well, the normal range of values called Aminotransferase (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum.
ALT is a protein. It is made by liver cells.
Slightly raised levels ALT levels may be caused by Fatty deposits in the liver.
Many medicines, such as statins, antibiotics, aspirin, narcotics, and barbiturates and Long-term (chronic) diseases that affect the liver, such as cirrhosis could cause raised ALT levels.
You need to udnergo more tests like aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and bilirubin level to know the status of liver.
An ultrasound of liver is also recommended at this stage.
Also, many times, liver enzymes could be raised without any medical condition.
It becomes important to get clinical examination, and further detail tests to be done, diagnosis.
I would recommend that you visit your primary doctor .
Good luck and take care.
Please let me know how I can be of further assistance.

Doctor has asked me to go in blood tests today.

Could this be a disease?

Expert:  Dr. Robert replied 2 years ago.
Dear Customer,
I can understand your concern.
Many times, such ALT levels, could be just raised without any reason.
And sometimes, underlying liver disease like fatty deposits in liver could cause such changes in ALT levels. Most likely you would be safe.
Please further get tests done.
