, my wife is 40 yrs old, non smoker or drinker, 5'3" around

Resolved Question:

, my wife is 40 yrs old, non smoker or drinker, 5'3" around 9 stone, has been diagnosed with bronchitis (no chest xray yet) and has been this way 3-4 weeks. Had 2 different antibiotics and just finishing day 10 of steroids. She still has a bit of a cold but my concern is she has shortness of breath during the day, night is fine. She has a bit of a dry cough, no sputem, no weight loss and normal appetite. She's also been given a pump should she need it. Could this shortness of breath still be due to bronchitis? Is there anything we can do to help her get better or can you suggest anything at home to help

Dr. Shahzad MD :

there. Thank you question. I will be helping you out with your queries

Dr. Shahzad MD :

What is the name of the pump that has been prescribed to her?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Has she used the pump as yet?

Customer:

Bricanyl

Customer:

Yes she's used it a few times over the last 10 days

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Has that helped any with her shortness of breath?

Customer:

Yes

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Ok good and what antibiotic is she on currently?

Customer:

Not on antibiotics currently, she's just finishing day of steroids

Dr. Shahzad MD :

ok and what was the second antibiotic that she used/

Customer:

Sorry day 10

Customer:

I'm sorry I cannot remember the name of the second set of antibiotics

Dr. Shahzad MD :

ok no problem

Dr. Shahzad MD :

So have her symptoms improved any in the past three to four weeks since she is having these symptoms?

Customer:

They don't appear to have got better or worse

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Did she have fever, cough with sputum when she started four weeks back?

Customer:

A little fever, a little sputum which seem to clear during the antibiotics and hasn't returned

Dr. Shahzad MD :

ok so she has improved at least some since her symptoms started, which is what I wanted to know.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

and the steroids have not helped any?

Customer:

A little yes but she can't seem to conquer the shortness of breath. The steroids don't seem to have made any difference in my opinion

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Considering that she has been consistently short of breath, I would recommend that she be referred to a pulmonologist.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I think that she needs to have pulmonary function tests done.

Customer:

Ok thank you, ***** ***** that specialist do?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

She could be having an onset of asthma or obstructive lung disease that needs to be ruled out.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I would like specialist to consider obstructive lung disease like asthma and COPD and rule those conditions out.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Additionally interstitial lung disease can present similarly.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

So would like to rule that out as well. she would require a high-resolution CT scan of the lungs.

Customer:

Ok thank you, ***** ***** an appointment with her GP tomorrow so hopefully she will be referred

Dr. Shahzad MD :

You are most welcome
Wish you all the best.
