my father has a red rash on his left leg. It started several months ago when he fell in the garden, the initial wound has never fully healed up and now there is a rash around the wound and has spread to the other leg. Any idea what it might be?

Based on your description so far this sounds like Contact dermatitis.

Dr Basu :

This means, the skin is reacting against the exposure he had from the fall.

Dr Basu :

This is akin to eczema but less severe.

Dr Basu :

The best treatment will be to use a prescription strength steroid cream twice daily.

Dr Basu :

Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream is a good example.
