This is Dr. David
a hernia is a weakness in your abdominal lining which can allow your abdominal contents to poke out.
men have a natural weak area in the inguinal area because that is where the testicles descend down through the abdominal fascia when they are babies and this is why inguinal hernias are common. this weak area can allow bowel to herniate down through the inguinal canal and into the scrotum sometimes if there is a weakness there.
pain in the groin area can be from a torn groin muscle or a pinched nerve
you should see a doctor and get an ultrasound of your groin area and possibly an MRI scan of your pelvis and lower back to check for pinched nerves causing pain going down into your leg.
do your trainers think you have a pulled groin muscle?
Is it absolutely necessary to see a doctor? I am 81 and do not wish to have an operation.do you think this is a hernia problem?
without an examination and ultrasound, I can't tell you over the internet if you have a hernia or pulled groin muscle.
seeing a doctor would be the best way to know what is going on there.
you don't have to have an operation if you don't want to.
but best to see a doctor to get an exam of the area.
when was the last time you saw your GP doctor?
Thank you for your advice.
