Customer Question

Hello,
I am on 5mg mane and 10mg nocte of haloperidol. I am trying to lose weight by walking and this week I ate healthily and burnt 2500kcal but only managed to lose 1lb. Does haloperidol affect metabolism whereby it halts weight loss? If so what can I do to lose weight as I am 5'9", 30 years old and weight 21st 7lbs? I was diagnosed with a schizo-affective disorder but now it is well under control.
Any advice would be appreciated. How can I lose weight?

you should see your doctor and get your thyroid hormone levels checked.

low thyroid hormone levels can make it hard for you to loose weight.

you have to keep up with the exercising and eating healthy.

it can take more than 1 weeks to loose weight

Hello,
What if my thyroid levels are normal? I just find it strange that I burnt over 3000kcal in five days, I ate 2000kcal per day and only managed to lose 1lb when I weigh 300lb. My BMR is higher than 2000kcal because I am obese. What should be tested for next? Sorry to be a nuisance.
Expert:  Dr. David replied 2 years ago.
one pound of fat could contain anywhere between 2,843 and 3,752 calories

you need to keep up your walking and exercise routine and also your smart eating and dieting

and over time you will continue to loose weight week after week.

the best way to loose weight is to change your lifestyle and incorporate healthy eating and exercise as part of your lifestyle

and you will loose more weight over time.

Dear Dr David,
As I have a lot of abdominal fat (I have abdominal obesity), is there a chance that I have simple fatty liver which can prevent weight loss? I read it is an asymptomatic condition that can prevent weight loss. Is there a medication that can remove or reduce fat in the liver?
Sorry if I am a nuisance.
Expert:  Dr. David replied 2 years ago.
fatty liver will not prevent weight loss

you can get an MRI scan or liver ultrasound scan to check on your liver.

but you need to continue to exercise and do aerobic exercise and diet and cut your calories to loose weight.

there are no medications to remove or reduce fat in the liver.

there are no short cuts to loosing weight.
