I believe I have polycystic ovary syndrome. I have extremely

Resolved Question:

I believe I have polycystic ovary syndrome. I have extremely painful, heavy and irregular periods. The worst symptom however is the excess body & facial hair. I spend around 3-4 hours per day removing the hair on my face, chest, nipples, stomach arms etc & it appears to be getting worse. It affects every aspect of my life - I can't go on weekends away with friends as I would have to spend most of my time removing my hair, it affects my sex life with my partner and I have to get up for work 3 hours before I start so I can get rid of my facial hair. I am about a stone & a half overweight & I'm currently on a diet & exercise plan but I'm wondering if taking a contraceptive pill would help with the effects and if so which would be the best one to take?

Hi Welcome to just answer

Caring doc :

Your symptoms may be due to polycystic ovarian syndrome

Caring doc :

Have you had any blood work done or medications that you tried ?

Customer:

No, I have never had any tests (for PCO). I have never seen a doctor about my symptoms. I assume its PCO due to what I have described plus the horrendously painful periods.

Customer:

I have never tried medications for the symptoms either.

Caring doc :

This is a common condition but there are other potential conditions that may mimic this and need to be ruled out

Caring doc :

Once diagnosed this is treatable condition with reasonable disease Control expected in most cases.

Caring doc :

Oral contraceptives containing combination of estrogen and progesterone can be tried.

I would suggest that before you self treat to see a gynecologist for evaluation.

If you delay your symptoms would worsen

Caring doc :

Among things needed would be to rule out any problem with thyroid gland s, adrenal gland or even enjoy the pituitary by doing simple blood tests.
