Ask a Doctor and Get an Answer to Your Medical Question ASAP
This is Dr. David
it sounds like your chest pain was from not warming up and playing football on a cold day.
that is good you didn't get the same pain the next day on your run.
How would I know if it was something to do with the heart?
Also what would be causing the pain?
you could see your doctor and get blood and ECG testing to check your heart.
the pain could have been due to not warming up properly, or anxiety can cause chest pain, or playing in the cold weather.
i had an ECG done in 2012
all was fine
do you have a history of excessive anxiety?
I had not played for 3 weeks
and also did not warm up
but how would I know if it was from the heart?
Do you think I need to be concerned with this?
you can't tell if it is in your heart from just your symptoms.
at your age, it would be unlikely you are having heart related chest pain.
I don't think you need to be worried about this.
if you had heart related chest pain, you would have pain when you did strenuous activity and you went running the next day
and were fine, so it is not from your heart.
let me know if you have questions.
but what about when sitting normally
i have read with heart pain it can be during activity and also when sitting
that is not when you have heart related pain.
your heart has to be very very damaged to have heart related pain when just sitting.
this pain was very localised and a shooting pain
i have read heart pain is more dull and squeezing sensation
you are too young to be worried about heart related pain.
do you think I should see my GP?
or no need for now
if you are playing soccer and running and being active, that is the best way to keep your heart strong.
sure, go see your GP doctor.
I bet your ECG again will be normal
I drink only occaisonalluy
do you think I need an ECG?
keep staying healthy and I bet you will be fine.
no, I don't think you need an ECG.
i mean perhaps i am panicking a little bit
I never said you need an ECG.
you are displaying a lot of anxiety symptoms in your questions.
okay so what would be your advice at this point?
I would suggest you forget about it
i havent had any pain in the chest since that day
if you continue to worry and have panic type symptoms, you should see your GP doctor about this.
you might need treatment to help decrease anxiety and panic symptoms.
so i normally play every week and had not played for 4 weeks and then played without warming up and exerted myself which resulted in a localised sharp shooting pain
the pain stopped about 40 minutes after i finshed playing
yes, I know.
but it gradually reduced once i had finished and completley stopped after about 40 minutes
do you think it was muscular then?
I am just trying to understand what could have caused it
are you still here?
it was most likely due to muscle strain from your lungs and diaphram straining from not warming up and playing in the cold.
okay would I have experienced other symptoms if it was heart related?
you would have sweats and you would have chest pain the next day when you were running.
i was sweating the next day when i ran
how would the sweating be different?
older patients who have heart related chest pain have nausea and radiating pain to their jaw or left arm
and crushing chest pain.
it really sounds like your anxiety is getting out of control with worry here.
you are not having heart related chest pain.
you are too young to have heart related chest pain.
your GP doctor will tell you this as well.
it sounds like you are focusing too much about this
if you continue to worry, you should see your GP doctor.
but I bet your heart testing will all be normal.
I bet you are having excessive anxiety making you worried.
i am a little worried
i have had this pain before but it seemed a little sharper this time
but then i didnt warm up and had not played for some time
i do have to say that the next day when i went for a run i felt very good
and did not have pain and ran a long distance
yes, you have told me that before.
i am repeating myself
you wouldn't be able to run long distance if you have heart problems.
i would be out of breath?
it is normal to be out of breath when you run.
i have one more question
if it was a heart issue and i ran a long distance you say that would not be possible but what would one feel if they try to run a long distacne if they have heart issues?
patients who have heart problems can't run
okay can you please summarise if you dont mind
what you think it was
or what it sounds like to you
I think you over did the football playing without warming up and playing in cold weather. this can strain and cause cramps in your intracostal and diaphram muscles and cause chest pain which goes away.
