It's one and the same thing in a patient who is already diagnosed with cancer.
If the person is not already diagnosed with cancer then it may represent something other than a metastasis or cancer.

Thanks . On ct repot it said a sub pleural nodule . Did not say metastases and had no measuements stated so unsure

The job of the radiologist is to state the facts i.e. to state if there is a nodule or no nodule.
It is the job of your treating doctor to interpret those facts.
So in your case the fact is that you have cancer and this nodule represents metastasis.
