I've been suffering with indigestion problems few

Resolved Question:

Hi, I've been suffering with indigestion problems for a few months, my medication I was on had caused it. My doctor put me on lansoporazole 30mg for 6 weeks but my stomach couldn't tolerate them as I suffer with IBS aswell. So I was then put onto randitine 300mg (150mg morning, 150mg at night) for 4 weeks but still got sore throat from acid, hurting to taking, every time food reached stomach. My doc has now put me on esomeprazole 20mg, for 4 weeks. I've only taken two tablets & like before my stomach can't tolerate them, I feel tightness in chest, breathing difficulties, burning, bloated, body aches, anxiety etc. The ranitidine helped for abit & can tolerate them better. Am I best going back onto these ? Am I ok to quit esomeprazole as only taken for 2 days ? Not got anymore randitine tabs, till see doc again. My poor stomach keeps switching tabs, from PPI's to H2 blockers. Do I just keep taking gaviscon in mean time ?

Hi there.
Thank you for your question.
I will be helping you out with your queries.
Am I ok to quit esomeprazole as only taken for 2 days ?
Yes you can quit taking esomeprazole after taking it for only two days although I would prefer that you quit taking it after consulting your doctor. However, quitting taking it would not cause any issues.
Not got anymore randitine tabs, till see doc again. My poor stomach keeps switching tabs, from PPI's to H2 blockers. Do I just keep taking gaviscon in mean time ?
Yes you can keep taking gaviscon in the meantime if that helps you with your symptoms.
I would recommend that you should have an endoscopy done to have a look inside your stomach if that has not already been done.
Kind regards

I don't really want to carry on taking PPI's for another 4 days till get in to see doc if I already feel bad today. Not taken anything today so far & chest is burning. I've already had an endoscopy & was all clear. Will ranitidine cure it eventually ? It's stopping me from socialising & getting a job as my throat hurts when talking.

If ranitidine is help you, there is no harm whatsoever in continuing to take it.
Even if after four to eight weeks therapy with medications is not helping then you need to be referred to a gastroenterologist, if you have not already being followed by one because at that stage I would like that you should be evaluated for acid reflux by doing a 24 hour pH monitoring test and then refer you to a surgeon to consider acid reflux surgery if required.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Can PPI's cause burning or do they need a few days to work ?
PPI's usually do not cause burning.
Sometimes PPIs can take a few days to work.
Am I ok buying randitine from chemist till see doc ?
Yes it is okay to buy ranitidine.
I want to be tab free, any recommendations I can try ?
Your case is a very complex one in that you are having side effects to almost all the main medications that we use for acid reflux.
So it would be a hit and trial thing in your case.
If ranitidine and gaviscon is helping you with your symptoms I would continue these for the time being.
Im on a plain diet, cut out dairy foods etc. the acid takes the breath of me. PPI's r the only stronger meds out, how do I cure this ?
There is actually no cure for acid reflux other than surgery.
PPIs and medications can control it.
Diet and weight loss along with exercise can control it as well.
Also limiting alcohol and caffeinated beverages can help.
Please rate me before we proceed.
