14th June my wife of 71 (going on 59) had an emergency operation

Customer Question

14th June my wife of 71 (going on 59) had an emergency operation for a strangulated hernia and a section of bowel was removed and joined. Discharged 19th June with a low white blood cell count. Since coming out she spends most of her day in bed, she has little soup and perhaps a litre of water a day. She was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer beginning of October 2014. My question is ...............
"How long is it safe to wait for her to regain her apatite".

This is Dr. David

I am sorry that your wife was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

I am a cancer doctor

it is the pancreatic cancer which is taking away energy and appetite.

you should ask her doctors about medications which could help stimulate her appetite such as megace or marinol or medical marijuana which can help stimulate her appetite.

loss of appetite is a very common problem with cancer patients.

unfortunately, it can be very very difficult to fix

let me know if you have questions.
