Dear customer,

Do you have pain radiating to the leg at present or only in the back?
Expert:  Dr. Ravoof replied 2 years ago.
Dear customer,

Presently you have 3 approaches to deal with the pain.

The first is medications. You are already taking Codydromol, please continue it. Also you can ask your doctor about tricyclic antidepressant medications. These medications in low dose may decrease the pain even when there is no depression.

The second approach is cognitive behavioral therapy which is based on evidence that psychological and social factors, are important in the genesis of chronic back pain and disability. This therapy may have effects similar in magnitude to exercise therapy.

The third approach is exercise therapy. Effective regimens include a combination of gradually increasing aerobic exercise, strengthening exercises, and stretching exercises. However you need to start doing them under supervision initially. Also some forms of yoga may be helpful for the pain and also to improve activity.

Take care.
