My girlfriend is currently 4 weeks pregnant(approx) she went

Customer Question

My girlfriend is currently 4 weeks pregnant(approx) she went for scan last Saturday that showed nothing and was told to return in a month after her vacation. (Shes away for a another 3 weeks).
Last night she began to experience period like pains and she bled slightly she also found her urine to have a slight pinkish colour to it.
Shes 20 years old and this would be her first time being pregnant.
During her consultation last week (8 days ago), the nurse also told her she had cysts, but was told not to worry as this is apparently quite common.
her Questions are
What is causing the it?
How long should she expect the symptoms to persist?
What if types of painkiller would be recommended?
Shes obviously very de-stressed and wants to know, if she has anything major to worry about.

Hi. I fully understand her concern here, but I don't see this as worrisome

She may very well have a bladder infection that's causing these symptoms

A mild amount of vaginal bleeding at her stage is fairly normal

At this point she can try some cranberry juice or cranberry pills and taking in lots of liquids and if these symptoms continue for more than another two days she should see a doctor for a urinalysis

Tylenol--acetaminophen--would be safe for her to take for pain

Let me know if you need any more information please

thanks for the quick response, my gf is says that she is urinates alot more than normal, but feels no pain whilst doing so.

she also does not have access to those medicines you recommened until her return to the uk in another 21 days time.

if there anything else you can recommend ?

should she still use the feminax to any pain relief ?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
Feminax contains naproxen and I'd suggest she switch to acetaminophen.

Other than that she needs to drink plenty of liquids
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Thanks Doc!

How long should her bleeding last ?

and

would she be ok not seeking medical attention before her trip back to the UK in 3 weeks times

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
I don't think the bleeding will last more than another day or two

I'd prefer she see a doctor sooner but she should be OK to delay that for another three weeks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

what would be the case if she had a ectopic pregnancy?

or indeed a miscarridge ?

at what point should she seek further advice if she does not stop to bleed?

Sorry for the delay. If the bleeding and pain last for more than another two days she will need to see a doctor

Hi doc, so my gf has bled for 2 days and stopped, she has been ok for the 2 days or so but has now developed back pain and period like cramping ...what do you suggest she do ?

she is not feeling any symptoms of pregnancy, and has pain in her lower back and leg...

she said she thinks she has miscarried.

she is still only taking what you said ?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
When did she stop bleeding?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Hey Doc, thanks for getting back to me.

So she bled for 3 days, and then stopped. That was followed by what she described as a brown discharge which lasted for 2-3 days.

She also is having some back pains, it mostly hurts when shes sat down, again it feels like period pains effecting her back and legs.

She wants to know if its normal to not have any pregnancy symptoms ?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
Not sure what you meant by that last sentence?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

well shes has not experinced any morning sickness, Cravings or tender breasts?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
That's not all that unusual actually

Doesn't sound like a miscarriage
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Hey doc, i just wanted to say thanks for the help you given us, your advice has helped alot !

She is feeling alot better overall. She's home in 12 days time.

As she is on vacation and feeling slightly better, she wants to get back to her normal routine and wants to know if you see any issue with her going swimming, Either in a pool or the Sea?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
No issues with the swimming
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Hey doc, so we now think she has a bladder infection, she urinates alot more than usual, and her last visit to the toilet contained white bits.

Based on the fact she has still not seen a doctor yet, and will not be returning to the UK for another 13 days.

Is there any medication she could either buy in a drug store or been shop bought in the UK and Shipped to her ?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.
Only a probiotic like lactobacillus--I really can't recommend antibiotics without her seeing a doctor first
