Hi there,White mark or patch can be a past trauma related scar tissue formation.Usually a benign harmless condition. In some cases, this can be leucoplakia--a precancerous condition.Use of alcohol, smoking increases this risk.Hence, this lesion should be checked by your doctor and an oral surgeon if needed for a biopsy. what other symptoms might I have if it is leucoplakia ?

Expert:  Dr Basu replied 2 years ago.
No symptoms are present usually --painless and may not cause any problem for long time till it transforms into a cancerous lesion. That manifests as ulcerated lesion, bleeding which grow rapidly. Best wishes

Currently my tongue 'aches' a little and I am aware of my glands under my jaw and feel a little pressure of some kind in my ears. would these be linked ?

Expert:  Dr Basu replied 2 years ago.
No this is not likely --likely muscle pain
