I have type 2 diabetes so I am just a tad concerned at my blood

Resolved Question:

I have type 2 diabetes so I am just a tad concerned at my blood pressure of late. I was in the Royal Marsden for a Colonoscopy on Thursday and the staff noted that my blood pressure was on the high side.
I have checked my blood pressure at hourly intervals for the last four hours and the readings seems to be around the 175 over 90 or higher. I take Candesartan 8mg once daily.
I am 76 years old and I am 5'7 tall and weigh 13.4 stone.
I will make an appointment to see my GP next week but in the meantime I was wondering if I should take another candesarten tablet now to try and regulate my blood pressure.

This is Dr. David
the starting typical dose for candesartan is 16mg a day
so your doctor started you at sort of a lower than typical dose.
but I would not increase the dosage on your own
I would talk to your doctor next week about increasing your dose
at this point, I would decrease salt intake in your diet, and work on exercise
and work on deep breathing exercises
you should not be checking your blood pressure every hour.
this will increase your anxiety about your blood pressure and this will increase will blood pressure
you should take your blood pressure when you wake up in the morning, noon and before bed.
so decrease the frequency you are taking your blood pressure.
