Customer Question

hi there, i recently had a miscarriage and im worried about the risk of infection. also what is the usual time for bleeding to stop?
Submitted: 1 year ago.
Category: Medical
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
This is Dr. David
sometimes bleeding after a miscarriage can take 3-6 weeks to slowly improve and resolve.
some patients can bleed even up to 10 weeks after the miscarriage.
signs of infection are fever, worse pain, pus, yellow discharge
chance for uterine infection are low
but you do have some risks for urinary tract infection.
do see your doctor for follow up blood testing to check for low iron
I am so sorry about your miscarriage

i dont have a fever or anything else just still bleeding slighly wirh small clots its been about 4 days since miscarriage. i just feel quite disorientated which is worrying
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
could be dehydration or hormone changes causing disorientation symptoms
if your symptoms get worse, you should see your doctor for more testing.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
do you think it sounds serious?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
no, it doesn't sound serious
it doesn't sound like you have an infection.
slight bleeding and small clots at 4 days is normal.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what symptoms would i have if serious?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
do you have excessive anxiety?
if so, you shouldn't be looking for symptoms you don't have which only worsens your symptoms.
why are you looking for more serious symptoms?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i think im so devastated by whats happened. i feel so disorientated i think because i think ive lost baby i feel like something is going to happen to me. im worrying about how weird i feel
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
these are psychological issues you have to see your doctor about
you might benefit from antidepression medications
and seeing a psychotherapist for talk therapy
you have to see your GP doctor about these issues.
or else you will continue to feel disoriented and depressed
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so its not a physical problem? i dont understand that when i feel unwell
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
depression and cause you to feel unwell and can cause you to have pain
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i dont have pain just feel very weird like im not there
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
these are psychiatric symptoms that you have to see your GP doctor about for assessment and treatment.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so do you not think its anything to do with miscarriage?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
no, it is nothing to do with your miscarriage.
but after a miscarriage, you can have a lot of swinging up and downs of your emotions
and it can make you feel very fragile and depressed and anxious and worried
so these hormone changes can be making you feel like you are disoriented and not yourself
you should see your GP doctor and see a counselor or psychotherapist to talk about these symptoms
but nothing dangerous is going on

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what are the symptoms for urinary tract infection you mentioned earlier?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
they are burning with urination, urinary frequency, cloudy urine.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the bleeding has almost stopped now but feel so weird and ill. just completely spaced out what could this be?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
most likely anxiety and depression causing this after your miscarriage.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
im sorry for keep asking but what are the chances this is something serious?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
chances are zero this is something serious.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
all my vital signs were fine at hospital a few days ago aswell. would these not be fine if serious?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
you are letting your anxiety get out of control with worry.
you don't have to worry about anything serious.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ive made a doctors appointment but couldnt get one for 3 days. what can i do to stop feeling so ill and spaced out? im scared and worried something is going to happen to me
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
you need anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications at this point.
I am proud of you making an appointment to see your doctors in 3 days
you have made it this far
you can make it another 3 days to see your doctor
ask your doctor about anti-anxiety and antidepression medications to help you
and ask to see a psychotherapist as well.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i know i keep asking but are you sure its nothing serious? i really feel like im going to die
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
yes I am sure
your symptoms are being caused by hormone changes
causing excessive anxiety.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
why do i feel like im dying?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
because your hormones are changing severely and this is worsening your anxiety symptoms.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what is happening to my hormones?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
they are coming down after your miscarriage.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
does that make you feel this ill? its scary. i started feeling like this the day i started bleeding and its just got worse
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
yes, hormone changes after miscarriage can make you feel this ill.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
how long will they take to go back to normal? could this possibly be anything else?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
your anxiety is out of control with worry
you don't need to be worrying about anything else
you need your depression and anxiety symptoms treated first.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i know but what if its not anxiety and there is something wrong? thats what is worrying me
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
you are not in a state of mind to be trying to figure this out yourself.
it is your anxiety making you worried that there might be something else
you need to have your doctor assess your state of mind and treat you currently
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so do you think its all in my head and im imagining it
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
I didn't say that
severe anxiety and depression can cause very real symptoms.
anxiety and depression is not something you imagine.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so it is very real what im feeling. do you promise i wont die?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
yes, it is very real what you are feeling
you haven't died yet
I promise you won't die
Expert:  Dr Uzair replied 1 year ago.
Hi, what else you want to know? How can i help you?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ive accepted offer. can you help please?
Expert:  Dr Uzair replied 1 year ago.
Hi and thanks for reply,
You are suffering from anxiety and depression because of miscarriage and hormonal fluctuations, I would suggest you should see your gynecologist to refer you to psychiatrist for help, a short course of anxiolytic medication and mood elevators can help a lot. It is pretty normal to have such thoughts in this situation, so no need to get worried.
Wish you good health.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i feel so ill though its so scary. i feel so out of it and spaced out. do you think theres any chance its serious?
Expert:  Dr Uzair replied 1 year ago.
There is nothing serious, just visit your doctor and try to overcome these feelings yourself. Engage yourself in healthy activities and relax.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
im seeing doctor in a couple of days. i know you are the doctor and sorry for asking but how do you know for definite its nothing serious?
Expert:  Dr Uzair replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

ive got an appointment on friday. what can i do till then to feel better? im so frightened i have an 8 month old to look after and my partner is going away for a week tomorrow

You need to invest time in more useful activities and keep yourself distracted. Try to take care of your little one and I would advise that you have help available while your partner is away.
