Dear JA CustomerThank you for this question Both drugs are category c which means that adverse events have been observed in animal reproduction studies.Sertraline crosses the human placenta. An increased risk of teratogenic effects, including cardiovascular defects, may be associated with maternal use of sertraline or other SSRIs; however, available information is conflictingQuetiapine crosses the placenta and can be detected in cord blood , however congenital malformations have not been observed in humans (based on limited data)I would recommend weighing risks Vs Benefits and unless necessary , avoid these drugs during pregnancy Please feel free to ask ,if you have any follow up quetsionsIf i have answered your question, please click ACCEPT, Thanks

Thanks for the rebly so your saying both of these are not safe because my doctor said they were I am worried now
Expert:  Internist replied 1 year ago.
they are not absolutely safe. having said that , they are also not absolutely contraindicated.they are only used if benefits outweigh risks in certain cases. ( category C)Category A and B can be used in any patient without any risk.C can be used in certain patients when benefits outweigh possible risks.D is used only in life threatening conditions,.X is always contraindicated.am i making sense to you

I fell pregnant on these tablets and havent stoped taking them if I do stop taking them I have thoughts about harming myself and unborn baby I am not myself with out this drug's but now im worried about what the drugs could do to baby
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is my baby more important or the mental state of my health
Expert:  Internist replied 1 year ago.
risks of harm to baby are very low in term of chances.that depends on your depression status. i mean how severe the depression is, for how long you have been taking them etc. i would recomm.end seeing psychiatrist and ob/GYN specialist to have thorough history and physical exam to check for need of continuing these medications.Generally if patient is already taking them and is stable on them with otherwise severe depression, we continue giving them. however we avoid starting them in pregnancy

I have been on both meds since last year I had very bad pnd when my son was born and I was seen by a mental health team and a psychiatric I was told to stay on the meds and not come off anything I haven't seen my psychiatic since I found out I was pregnant
Expert:  Internist replied 1 year ago.
thank you for replying.just to confirm, by pnd you mean postnatal depression ?did you have any breakthrough symptoms? i dont think you need these medications for now as mostly they are given for 6 months to 1 year if no relapse of symptoms.you must see your psychiatrist to discuss continuing these medications vs stopping them, and possibility of postnatal depression in this pregnancy and how to avoid / when to seek help.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes post natal depression, but also every month before my period was due my moods were awful and I was very unstable and had awful thought's that is why I was kept on these meds
Expert:  Internist replied 1 year ago.
right.premenstrual dysphoric disorder also gets help from sertraline.so i recommend following. do not stop these medications on your own.schedule an appointment with your psychiatrist to discuss abovementioned things.hopefully and in terms of odds, even if you keep taking these medications , your baby will be healthy and have no problems.
