This is Dr. David
I am a cancer doctor.
papillary thyroid cancer is a slow growing cancer and has a super high cure rate with surgery when the thyroid is cut out.
if you go privately, you have to pay a lot for the surgery.
it will be fine for her to wait until January to have the surgery. that is less than a month.
there is stage IVa, IVb, IVc thyroid cancer.
stage IVc papillary thyroid cancer means it is metastatic and she doesn't need thyroid surgery.
let me know if you have questions.

So that means if she has the surgery even in stage 4 she can be cured?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you there?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
for stage IVa and IVb, she can be cured with surgery and I-131 therapy afterwards.
stage IVc can't be cured with surgery.
so I suspect she only has stage IVa or IVb

Thanks for the link.It say that patient under 45 only have stage 1 & 2 where as older patients have 4.Then how come she is stage 4
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
that is right.
because even if patients under age 45, even if their cancer has spread to other parts of her body, the thyroid cancer can be treated and cured with I-131 therapy.
patients under age 45 have such a good prognosis, they only have stage I and II for patients under age 45.
bring this staging website to her doctors.
argue with them that she can not possibly be stage IV, under AJCC staging which is american joint commission on cancer.
maybe they have their own organization for cancer staging in the UK,
but AJCC is a pretty big international organization for cancer staging.
