Resolved Question:

My right ear is being weird. Everything sounds machine- or robot-like. It is especially conspicuous when I listen to music; it sounds like an upper note is overlapped on each note. This started an hour ago suddenly.

This is Dr. David
you could have some fluid in your inner ear.
this can cause sound waves not to conduct properly through your ear
you should see a doctor at the ER or urgent care center or your GP to look in your ear to check for fluid and infections
you might need a course of antibiotics to help clear the infection out of the inner ear
