Customer Question

I have had a catheter for 18 months. I am male, 93 generally fit. catheter has had a couple of mild jerks in last few days. First urination yesterday a little blood then clear, first today a little, next two rather more. No unusual irritation. Same around last Xmas, left urine sample with my GP, no comeback so assume OK. Might try to see him tomorrow. Any comments? Thank you. Ernest Horsman

This is Dr. Davidyou did the right thing to send your urine to your GP doctor to check for urinary tract infection.having an indwelling urinary catheter or foley catheter often can increase your risks for bladder infections.sometimes trauma from pulling the catheter can cause blood in your urine as well.make sure you drink plenty of wateryou can also try drinking more cranberry juice as a way to try to prevent urinary tract infectionslet me know if you have other questions.if done for now, please leave positive rating above the chat box so I can get credit for helping you todaywe only get credit for helping clients after positive feedbackyou can always reach me with "a question for Dr. David" in the medicine or oncology categories if you have any other questionshere is my website if you need to reach me again:http://www.justanswer.com/medical/expert-dr-david/Thanks for using JustAnswers.com
