Customer Question

I'm 44 and have whooping cough, it's been nine weeks now from simple cough to a cold and then coughing gasping for breath 40_50 times a day.now they are less frequent about 2_3 per day, and not so severe I can't breath, but my chest is so sore it's hard to breath I guess from all the coughing, I'm on iron tablets as my level was 9.but not worried as I put that down to not able to eat for two weeks, and my appetite is back, I'm exhausted as this has then it's toll on me and have lost ten pounds in weight been off work for two months and not ready to go back as yet, how long will this go on and will my chest improve soon

I've been and had chest xray everything ok.I guess the coughing is the cause of my chest pain and feeling ribs have cracked, just need to know how long till this eases and what stage am I at with the whooping cough as I need to be in work
Expert:  Dr. David replied 7 months ago.
it may not get better until you get some more treatments like steroid therapy.sometimes after repeated coughing fits, you can have swelling of your airways called bronchiectasis which causes continued coughinga course of steroids can help calm down inflammation and help stop this cycle of coughing and airway swelling.
