Customer Question

My nephew (who lives in Finland) is experiencing periods of the the loss of use in his legs. His legs literally 'go from under him' Blood and brain scans and an MRI have revealed nothing. He was previously healthy and very active, although suffered from headaches. We are at our wits end, as there is no diagnosis.

This is Dr. David

he needs an MRI scan of his total spine

and also EEG scans of the brain to check for seizure activity.

and he might even need a spinal tap to check the fluid around the spinal cord.

has he had these tests yet?

When I have spoken to my brother can I call you?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

yes, you can accept additional phone consult services at that time to be able to talk on the phone.

Thank you. Dylan (my nephew) is very frightened, he doesn't understand what is happening to him, his siblings are also frightened. He tried to walk to school recently bus collapsed. One doctor feels it may be a membrane issue, another has suggested it is psychosomatic, we do NOT accept this. Dylan is a healthy and well adjusted child.

This issue happened after a particularly bad bout of the flu.

My nephew had a bad bout of flu before these symptoms occurred, could this be connected?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

after flu infection he could have had a viral infection cause this, viral infection can infect nerves like in bell's palsy and can cause temporary paralysis.

he should still have those tests including EEG, spine MRI scan, spinal tap

hopefully these viral infections won't happen again.

he should be up to date with his vaccinations.

Thank you so much, you seem to have been much more helpful than the Dr's Dylan has seen so far, passing it off as 'psychosomatic' which we DON'T accept.

Where can we take Dylan in the UK for further investigation?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

I would take him to a pediatric neurologist department in the UK

Just an update on Dylan; after speaking to my brother he has had two further opinions which concur with what you have said. Although we are not out the woods yet, everyone is feeling a calmer and more hopeful.
Thank you again for your help on this matter.
