I was detected bipolar back in 2009 in India. I went in

Resolved Question:

Hi I was detected bipolar long back in 2009 in India. I went for councling in India and recovered.Since then I was on medication for bipolar. In 2013 I had a planned pregnancy. So with doctors advice my medication was terminated.Since then I never had any medication .I never feel depression, never feel like hurting my self or others,I feel more in control of what I think and do.I am very positive about my life.
Hence my concern is am I still a bipolar.Do people who are bipolar behave normally and stay so well mentally for this long time. Please put some light on my knowledge. Shall I go to doctor and ask them to examine me if I am a still a bipolar.I want to know if I am really a bipolar or was a victim of general depression. Please guide me.
Thank you

This is Dr. David

yes, some patients can get better from bipolar disorder

but very often it does come back later in life

sometimes a stressful situation can cause depression to return back.

sometimes good times can lead to manic episodes and too much happiness.

you should still continue to follow up with your doctors to keep an eye on your situation

if you are not having any bipolar symptoms, you may not need medications at this point.

but best to see the doctors regularly to have check ups.

let me know if you have questions.
