Eight weeks ago i was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid.

Customer Question

Hi. Eight weeks ago i was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. My symptoms include extreme fatigue and weakness. I was started on 25 mcg Eltroxin. After six weeks my blood results suggested that my underactive thyroid was under control. However, my symptoms are still the same if not worse. My doctor has suggested that there could be an issue with my adrenal glands. What is your opinion?

Dear customer,

Thanks for your question.

I agree with your doctor. If even after eight weeks and with adequate treatment you still have fatigue, then we need to look for other causes for your symptoms. Besides the adrenal hormones, I would suggest other tests such as fasting blood glucose to look for diabetes. Also a complete blood count to look for anemia and liver function and renal function tests may be done. After finding the cause and with adequate treatment your symptoms will gradually reduce.

Take care.
