I have what I believe is an "anal fissure". I've had it

Customer Question

I have what I believe is an "anal fissure". I've had it for a couple of months now. It's very uncomfortable passing stool and doesn't seem to be improving. I have some very bad confidence issues and want to try everything I can at home before seeing a doctor in person. Are there any creams or home treatments I can try?
Thanks

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Stool softener daily is highly recommended to prevent any discomfort.

Psyllium husk or Magnesium citrate can be tried daily.

High fiber diet and fluids also recommended.

Avoid smoking and alcohol as they are known to worsen fissures.

You can try over thecounter hemorrhoid ointment containing lidocaine gel to relieve the pain before passing stool.

Sitz bath daily --sitting in warm bowl of water 5-10 minutes also helps with healing.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
