I have bpd and a story of substance abuse. i have been out

Customer Question

i have bpd and a history of substance abuse. i have been out of theropy for some time and off meds. what im worried is that the bpd is bipolar disorder because over the past few yrs especially within the last year i flip from extreme depression and fatigue to extreme adha overwhelming feelings of power that i feel that i cannot control almost like a fair ground ride. i have oftern wondered if this is because of bpd + substance use but i foind that without the substance abuse the euphoria to mania is worse than with

This is Dr. David

you have to see a psychiatrist or primary care doctor for treatment of your bipolar disorder.

without treatment, you are correct, you will get into bad euphoria or bad depression again.

you need to be on a mood stabilizer medication.

substance abuse is not the answer to treat your bipolar disorder.

you can still go back to Spa Medical Center and see another doctor there to treat your bipolar disorder.

you should go back there and see a doctor right away. you are still registered there.

hello dr david
i took your advise and went to the gp on friday. i had to register again as my records couldnt not be found which is a bit worrying considering my medical file must be the weight of a small car! whilst registering the receptionist was concerned with me because at the time i was in a depressive anxious mind and made an emergency appointment with a Dr Roland Teare for the following monday.
from my recolection dr teare seem to be expecting an 'emergency' and asked why i had book an emergency appointment maybe i just misunderstood what he ment by 'expecting an emergency'. during the appointment i seemed unable to 'connect' with him, looking back on the situation now i know i was in a hypo/manic state so anything i told him would of been 100mph sounding gibberish so much so he even ask if i was using drugs. i appreciate gp's have a very limit time but i dont think me arriving as a gibbering wreck didnt go down very well. the appointment ended with me having a slip of paper with a contact number for a group called IAPT and leaving with me having more questions than i did on arrival.
is it just me, is it the bpd. but why do i get uncontrollable hypo/mania states of mind without control and only realising after when i reflect back on my behaviour i didnt think bdp caused mania. bdp i can somewhat control by avoiding situations or using tought techniques i learnt in hospital but this mania state i have no control over and it worries me. sometimes i feel euphoric and good like im on a natural high but mostly it always becomes to much to intense and whats when i loose control and do impulsive idiotic actions.

you were nervous with the new doctor.

that is why you were anxious and speaking fast.

did you tell the doctor you had bipolar disorder?

IAPT is Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), a programme which supports the frontline NHS in implementing National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.

I'm not sure if they will treat you for bipolar disorder.

did a prior psychiatrist diagnose you as having biplar disorder?

you still need to stay away from substance abuse

and be started on biploar mediations.

let me know if you have other questions.
