Symptoms - Constant thirst and excessive urination (every 2

Resolved Question:

Symptoms - Constant thirst and excessive urination (every 2 hours) for 3 days now.
Profile - 37 yrs old, 87 kg weight, 188cm height, train (HIIT) 6 days per week and in good shape, diet is high in protein but well rounded, but high sugar intake (very sweet tooth). Also had taken creatine once a day and 3 protein shakes a day for 2 weeks leading up to symptoms. Alcohol consumption is 1 big night a week.
As of Monday have cut out all refined sugar and sweets etc, no creatine, no caffeine, no protein shakes or sports drinks. Symptoms persist. Any recommendations on diet or time scales for back to normality or is it generally not good.......

Hello and thank you for your question. I’d be happy to assist you.

I understand your concern.

Well such Constant thirst and excessive urination indicates possibility of Diabetes.

You must check your blood sugar levels.

Also when someone has a high blood sugar, the sugar also acts as a diuretic.

Other possible causes may include Urinary tract infection.

As your symptoms are not improving over the time then see your doctor for further evaluation and management.

Fasting blood sugar levels,HbA1c,urinalysis,Kidney function test should be done further.

Let me know if you have any further query so we can discuss it thoroughly in every aspect.

I won't have access to a doctor for a couple of weeks. Can you advise any actions or change of diet that will help or potentially reverse the symptoms?
Expert:  Dr Anil Kumar replied 1 year ago.

You should try some self care measures like

Hydrate yourself with plenty of fluids.

Start a multivitamin supplement.

Try Azo pills if you have some burning sensation during urination.

Avoid alcohol.

Continue to cut out all refined sugar and sweets etc, no creatine, no caffeine, no protein shakes or sports drinks.

Limit your protein intake also.

Eat small meals throughout the day.

Limit fluids before bedtime.

If your symptoms'll not improve in next 3 days then visit emergency room for further evaluation and management.

Hope this helps.

Ok. Thanks. Last question, how often does it reverse in healthy patients that affect a change in diet and stick to it?
Expert:  Dr Anil Kumar replied 1 year ago.

This should subside in 1-2 weeks if diabetes is ruled out.
