My nearly four year old has fixed ideas about a few things,

Resolved Question:

My nearly four year old has fixed ideas about a few things, for example she only wants to wear pink and it must be long sleeved and she also wants to wear leggings with everything no matter how warm it is and she will not have her hair tied up. If we try to differ from the above she gets extremely upset, how should we treat this situation? Should we be trying to break these fixed ways? She also is very fixed about how her cushion is behind her when sitting on the chair and she will get upset if we move her cushion or sit in 'her' seat. What should we do?

Hi

Has she had any assessment

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
She had a speech and language assessment but was deemed above her years in this and so they discharged her after assessing her
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 12 months ago.

I think this is a normal phase

What does the pediatrician or GP say>?

Expert:  DrRussMD replied 12 months ago.

What does the pediatrician or gp say?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
The speech and language therapist said she is way above her years in her understanding and speech and language so discharged her

And what did the doctor say, or has she not had a GP assessment?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
Speech and language therapist said she would refer her to a paediatrician but couldn't guarantee she would meet their criteria to be seen

My question is, has this four year old ever been to a doctor.

Has this child had a medical assessment, ever?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
She hasn't had a GP appointment yet, we will get one

OK

Here is what I think.

As long as there are no medical problems, give her other choices but leave her alone.

This seems pretty normal for a four year old.

I do not understand how a four year old has not been medically examined by now, and that is the real problem here.

If she is normal on exam, then I don't see any problem that stands out.

She's had appointments of course in the past for minor ailments but not for the above behaviours as they are fairly new

OK

So this is a stage where children, 4 to 5 are trying to get some identity as to where they fit in, a first pass if you will.

I would not stress about it.

See where it goes.
