For one year I have had hot flashes, weight gain around

Resolved Question:

For one year I have had hot flashes, weight gain around middle and generally feel low. I am 71. GP has carried out numerous blood tests including thyroid twice in last year. Also cortisol including 24 hour tribe test. Have had chest X Ray, routine test X Ray for breast cancer, routine faecal scan for bowel cancer, test for endocarditis. All normal. GP thinks it's stress. I'm not especially stressed but am fed up with frequent hot flashes.
Any suggestions what to do next.

Can you please explain exactly what you are feeling when you get a hot flash. 71 is too old to be having hormonal hot flashes.

It's just like a menopausal hot flash. Sometimes just feeling of warmth over neck and then going on to sweating over neck and hands. Lasts seconds or a few mins Sometimes several times a day or just once or twice. I don't feel ill at all. Bit tired sometimes. But very fed up with them. Only symptom might be weight gain.

It is not a menopausal hot flash. Not possible. I would suggest seeing an endocrinologist as there are many other causes of flushing. YOu really need a full medical workup.

Thanks. I've already had one I think. See original question. Thank you though. Been told it's stress.

My degree was biochemistry and know it's not menopausal. Looking at trying to get lots of exercise and good diet. I am stressed. Hoping symptoms will be alleviated if I do this.

Hot flashes like this are often due to anxiety or panic type symptoms. It sounds like you are on the right track.
