In that case her doctor should refer her to another doctor if her doctor is unable to find the cause for the symptom which is occurring for a long time now. A problem with the chest may not be the cause in all cases for a chronic cough and in her case this is most likely due to postnasal drip, where the nose or the sinuses produce excess mucus which can drip down the back of the throat and this will trigger the cough reflex. Getting examined by an ENT specialist will be beneficial.
