Customer Question

Hi
I was cooking this evening. I had to peel off packaging of something I was cooking in the oven for over 30 minutes.
When I opened the packaging the steam scalded my thumb bad.
I run it under the tap for the first hour on and off when the pain stroke
However 4 hours later I have had to keep my thumb in a cup of cold water.
I cannot sleep like this cause the pain is very bad. When I take my thumb out of the water it stings even worse which is unbareable I have to put it back in the water.
What can I do to stop this pain? It's been 4 and half hours and the pain isn't getting lighter at all.

Hello and welcome to just answer

I'm happy to consult you today

I have reviewed your case, its a first degree burn most likely.

you need to do the following things.

1.Apply cold water or ice after regular intervals, soak it in cool water for 15 minutes

2. After soaking, gently dry it with a clean cloth and treat the burn with a skin care product like an antibiotic ointment or aloe vera cream.

3.Cover your thumb with sterile clean cloth or a dry gauze and protect it from air

4.Use over the counter pain killers like ibuprofen or paracetamol or naproxen.

You will be fine within a few hours

can you please tell if there is any skin eruption?

It would be better to use ibuprofen 200mg 4 times a day.It will reduce pain and inflammation as well.
