have 2 problems 1, how do you open the silver key with removable metal key to install new batteries
2, our clk200 is having issues starting all functions work but when key is turned to start position nothing happens after several attempts it sometimes starts but this may take 15-30 attempts note the car is in park or neutral when trying to start.

the Key issue is corrected but I still have the issue of the vehicle taking several attempts to get it to start I will wait but can only wait for a few days

As for the starting problem, it could be the starter, the wiring or the ignition (command...)
In your case, the most common problem causing this, would be corrosion at the connectors of the ABS/BAS control unit. This problem is so common, that MB had to release a technical service bulletin. I will include the bulletin, which has the details necessary so you proceed accordingly.
