My daughters 51 plate diesel A140 was left unused on her drive

Customer Question

My daughters 51 plate diesel A140 was left unused on her drive for about 2 months. When she tried starting it - nothing. A friend tried jump leads - the internal lights etc came on OK but when they turned the key again nothing, not even a click. Message on dash came up "error starting".
Any idea what the problem is?

MB Paul :

Hi, My name is Paul & I will try to assist you

MB Paul :

The message "start error" on the dash is caused by the imobilisor not recognising the key.

MB Paul :

In the first instance if you have a spare key then you should try this to see if the fault still exists with the other key

MB Paul :

If it does then the fault is likely to be within the DAS (Driver Authorisation System) module - this will need to be confirmed with STAR diagnostic tool

MB Paul :

If the DAS module requires replacing then it also needs coding on STAR before it will work

MB Paul :

Let me know if you need anything else

MB Paul :

Best regards, Paul
