Hi Mike,We have a 2008 Sprinter 311cdi with DPF which has an

Customer Question

Hi Mike,We have a 2008 Sprinter 311cdi with DPF which has an intermittent smoking problem. The smoke is bluish unburnt fuel.No fault codes the smoking occurs when engine is hot and throttle valve is closed at tickover .when valve opens after ticking over for 20/30 secs smoking stops. In OBD the throttle valve values go from 8% to 23% with the ignition on engine not running with engine ticking over it ranges from 12% to 23%.ACC pedal pos D and E are 7% at tickover we are thinking these should be 0%,but the reading we dont understand is the varying throttle valve actuator position.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Blue smoke is burning oil not disel fuel I would look at engine burning oil or bad turbo they go bad a lot

Thanks for the reply the smoke is eye stinging unburnt diesel. We were looking for somebody to confirm our thoughts on the throttle valve position variations, because as soon as the throttle butterfly opens the smoking stops like flicking a switch .The fault is a lack of air when smoking .
