Customer Question

I received a telephone call advising me that my computer is infected. A technician has been working on my computer but I am a little uncomfortable now. I am afraid I might have fallen for for a scam and that he has hacked into my computer. He is asking me for £249 for a lifetime warranty.

Hello! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed computer professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. You are correct that this is a scam. No support company or Microsoft would ever call you for any computer support (you would call them first.) This is a scam in order to get your money. Microsoft has written an article about phone scams:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

I suggest to do the following:

- Click Start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore and restore the computer to any date before this issue has occurred, if possible, and restart the computer.

- Change your important passwords, such as email password, facebook password, online banking password, etc. if you use.

- Do a full scan of your computer with your antivirus/security program.

- Call your credit / debit card company and report/cancel the big amount charge.

Please let me know if you have any further question. Please be careful with phone scams and email scams.

Edit: If you need anything else later, please let me know any time. Also, can you please take a moment to rate my service by clicking on a face icon / service option below, then click on Submit when it shows up. Take care! Thank you,
