Just updated to Windows 8.1 but will now only work on battery

Customer Question

Just updated to Windows 8.1 but will now only work on battery power. If I plug in mains screen goes black. It charged OK during night when computer was switched off. This first happened when Windows was being updated. Screen had gone black during upgrade and by luck I removed power supply and it all continued normally, until I reconnected.

Hi there, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I'll be assisting you.

When the screen goes blank press ctrl+alt+del and choose task manager.

Go to File->New task

type in 'cmd' (minus the ' ') and check the run as administrator box

A command prompt will open

type 'sfc/scannow' and press enter

Wait until it is 100% finished

After the scan is complete type 'cd c:\Windows' and press enter

Now type 'del "c:\Windows Activation Technologies" ' (you need the " " around the middle part) and push enter

When asked for confirmation type 'y' and push enter

Finally type 'shutdown -r -t 2'

After some confusion I received your response of 5th January. After the scan was completed the botXXXXX XXXXXne on the screen read c:\windows\systems>ls I then added cd c:\Windows as you suggested. It then responded lscd c is not a recognised question. Please can you help. Incidentally, as I mentioned whenever the mains power is connected the screen goes black, thus I have to do this exercise on battery power and then recharge it each time! Please can you help some more? Thanks.
