If that does not work, please try this: turn off the Compaq laptop, then turn it back on, then keep pressing & releasing the key F11 until a menu appears (or use the F10 key if it does not wrok), then choose the troubleshoot /recovery manager (or reset) option.

If that does not work, please try:
1. At the login screen, press & keep holding the Shift key.
2. Click on the Power icon, then click on Restart while still holding the Shift key.
3. Wait until a menu appears, then you can release the Shift key.
4. Select the troubleshoot / reset option
