mainly in outlook. the system isn't as fast as it once was. but pop 3 emails are taking along time to download.

web pages take time but I think that's thhe broadband speed
that means effectively waiting for an email to arrive....and they come in via spam filter
the slowless can be because of multiple things..
1) In Mail server
3) System itself
can we do a remote session to check the problem on the computer?
the emails come through to my other machines quite quickly - my iphone has no problem downloading them, the ipad neither. its just Outlook on my computer which is slow
the exchange server email address isn't slowed down though

3 minutes. But to be honest that's not the problem. Its when the emails are actually downloading that the delay occurs. Its not the regularity but the time the actual download takes.

so that I understand better, what is a pst file and what do you thik the problem may be?
PST file is where your email config and data is stored
if problem is with PST, creating a new pst should speed up things
that confirms where the problem is

problem though is that at this time of uyear im not exacting getting a thousand emails!

RULES processing happens on YOUR OUTLOOK side
not on the SERVER SIDE

did you try opening OUTLOOK by DISABLING rules?
do you see any improvement in performance?
As seen during the session deleting the rules certainly improved the performance
but you can add rules as and when needed keep them to a minimal number
