Troubleshooting wireless / network issues can take long. No problem, I can provide written instructions this issue; this can take a few times replying back and forth. Can you check at the back/bottom of your Toshiba laptop exact model of it, such as L300-29W or C650-S5049, etc.?
And/or enter your laptop's serial number at the website below, then it will tell you the model:

Have you tried this: Press at the same time the two keys Fn and F8 on your keyboard in order to turn on / off the wireless / radio?
If needed, also test if other function keys are working or not. Such as pressing at the same time the two keys Fn and F9 would enable / disable the wireless, or pressing Fn & F7 would increase the screen brightness, and pressing Fn & F6 would decrease the screen brightness, etc.
- Also, please check if there is a wireless light/button at the top. If yes, please press it in order to turn on/off the wireless antenna. Then try Fn & F8 again as needed.
- If that does not work, please click Start->All programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore and restore the computer to any date before this issue has occurred, and check
, and try Fn & F8 keys again as needed.
- If needed, shut down the laptop, then remove the power cord from the laptop, then remove the battery couple of minutes, then reinstall it back, then turn on the laptop, and check.Note: These are just some possible solutions. Please reply back and let me know, so I can provide another solution if it does not work. Thank you.
The function keys do not appear to be working. I have done everything you suggested and I still have no wifi. The wireless light is orange next to the slider switch on the face of the laptop and is on.
I'm sorry, do you mean all other function keys do not work either
, i.e., enable/disable touchpad using Fn & F9
, or increase / decrease screen brightness using Fn & F7 and Fn & F6?
Or are only the wireless function keys Fn & F8 not working?
Can you click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Properties, then check if your System type: is 32-bit or 64-bit?
Can you download and install the Toshiba Value Added Package program at the website below, and check:
; the download file name is vap-20080916112329.zip
, after it's done downloading, then open it and extract (unzip it)
, then open the file setup / setup.exe in order to install it.
; if needed, restart the computer, and try pressing at the same time the two keys Fn & F8 again in order to turn on /off the wireless.
Please let me know. Thank you.
It is 32 bit. The Fn plus F keys do not seem to be working but all the others are ok.
I have downloaded and unzipped the link but I am having a problem finding the DANGEROUS URL REMOVED file in my laptop. Will get back to you.
OK. Also, all function keys works except F8 right? If needed, please also download and install the latest wireless driver at the website below:
If all fails, I'm sorry, the wireless / radio antenna is bad. Can you get a USB wireless / Wi-Fi adapter and use it?
When you are available, please click on the Reply to Expert tab below, and reply back to me, so we can continue. Thank you,
I am beginning to think the problem is mechanical rather than electrical, that a component or board has failed. If this is so are they easily replaced?
Many thanks suggestions over the past few days, I will get the USB adapter and see what happens.
I got a USB wireless adapter and it works well including the printer.
