Have just purchased and downloaded 8.1 pro but have no access to docs previously in Windows 7, big problem !! how can I recover info and sync with 8.1 pro. Tks

Have you copied the old docs out of the windows old folder and onto the windows 8 desktop and tried opening them from there?

Also what type of docs are these? Are they word documents?

Im 65 and not tec savvy !! no did not copy old docs , yes all word docs

No I didn't install m/s work just downloaded 8.1

Ok the files will not open if you have not yet installed the proper software to open the files.

When you upgrade you need to reinstall all of your software.

So for example if these are microsoft word documents you need to install the microsoft workd program in order to open them.
