Customer Question

I have a database containing 55,000 records in Excel 2010
I want to extract all the records with one particular word, “mortgage” in, to do a mailing to the email addresses associated with that word.
I have tried looking at the do-it-yourself ways of doing it on Google and I just can’t understand it.
I can do basic formulae in Excel, but that’s about it.
Can someone do an idiots guide please?
Thanks.

Hi, welcome and thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I am glad to assist you today.I am very sorry about your issues. Can you send me a copy of your Excel file with just very few sample records in it? (Not the 55,000 records. May 5 sample records will do). Please attach the sample file here when you reply using the paper clip icon or you can upload it at http://filesXpress.com and then give me the short download link. Please let me know by replying to me here so that I can help you further.Best regards,Jess

Hi James,Thank you for that sample data. What column is the "mortgage" thing where the lookup will be based? And I believe you only want to extract the information in column P which are email addresses, right?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thank you for the reply.
The word mortgage is either in Column A or Column B, but, I only need the email address from Column P which are related to record with the word mortgage in it. I can’t delete the empty columns because the machine tells me it doesn’t have enough resource.
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.
Thank you. So you want Excel to look for the word "Mortgage" in column A or B and when it finds it, it will collect the corresponding email address in column P. Please give me a moment to check this for you.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thats right. Thanks

Hi,Thank you for patiently waiting. I have completed the formula for you. Here is the modified file:http://filesxpress.com/d-244889f8The collected emails are shown in column T. If you have 55,000 records there, dragging that formula down will let you collect all emails that match your "mortgage" parameter.I hope that helped. Please remember to rate my service positively (3-5 stars/faces) if this helped. Tips are always highly appreciated!Thank you for using our service. If you need assistance in the future, you can request me any time by posting a new question starting with "For Jess M" so that I can assist you immediately.Best regards,Jess

Thank you for the formula.
I have accepted your answer and will leave you a bonus if we can resolve the following issue:
I have applied it to the spreadsheet and it has extracted the email addresses into the relevant column.
However I cannot do anything with them.
If I try to cut and paste the column into another spreadsheet, it will not extract the data on top, only the formula.
How do I get the email address from the column without the formula? Thank you
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorted. Cut and paste, "Paste values". Thanks
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.
Hi, thank you for writing back with that information. I am glad that you were able to make use of the formula I built for you using the sample file.Yes, if you need to extract the emails to another sheet or file, you need to use the Paste Special feature called Paste Values to copy the email addresses instead of the formulas.I hope that helped. Please remember to rate my service positively (3-5 stars/faces) if this helped.
