Thank you for the prompt reply.

Lastly, does this only happen when you apply the brakes?

Yes,predominately.

Thanks for your patience.

This sounds like the common free wheel clutch solenoid pack failure, this is the pack of solenoids mounted on the frame rail under air filter. The solenoids re-direct vacuum to engage/disengage the front axle when requested. If one of the solenoids fail, it can cause incorrect direction of vacuum which can cause the 4wd to engage or disengage improperly or without manual request.

Hope this helps.

Hi you did not complete my Initial query where i asked could the service attributed to this as they changed the air filter on the vehicle

Expert:  Jake replied 3 years ago.

Well it's certainly "possible", but at the same time highly unlikely. Air filter replacement just doesn't require any access or airbox movement that would cause the solenoid or the vacuum lines to be disturbed.

I think this is just a coincidence at this point, you could always ask the service center if they messed with or inspected the vacuum lines to the solenoid packs, but I highly doubt they did.
