mitsubishi outlander 2008 -

Customer Question

I have a mitsubishi outlander 2008 - it is a 2.2 Diesel engine manual (stick) Vehicle has 61,000 miles. On switching on the ignition before engine starts there is a whirring and clicking sound - quite loud. This continues once the engine is started until switched off. After a couple of seconds when the engine has been switched off the noise then starts again of its own accord then stops again after another couple of seconds . Any clues as to what this May be ??

Hi there, where is the whirring sound coming from? Under the hood? Or under the dash?

Hello

Under the hood.... definitely an engine noise. of some sort

Has you ABS light come on at all when this happens?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

no warning lights on - with this sound.

Sounds to me like an issue with the glow plug timer or relay if it's clicking with ignition ON or OFF.

Wouldn't make sense for any part mechanically speaking in the engine to make noise with key ON or OFF, only wen running.
