Ask a Neurologist and Get an Answer ASAP
I have got a herniated disc in the lower back L5 that is trapping my nerves and making my lower legs and feet numb.
Hello and thank you for your question.
As you have lumbar radiculopathy the symptoms you are experiencing is neuropathic in nature. There is no medication that can help to cure numbness except Physical therapy which you have already tried. As the nerve controls the muscle activity you have experience fatigue while walking as it is affecting your muscles.
Usually before surgery, conservative treatment is approached which includes epidural or steroid injections which reduces the inflammation thus relieving the compression.
You would need to see a neurosurgeon to evaluate whether you are candidate for surgery or not. I would first suggest to try injections.
Even after surgery you would need PT.
