Nissan 300zx 1989-90 V6 sohc have had head gaskets done now misfiring and wont idle engine timing set to TDC and ignition timing set to fire on cyl no.1 has the black hitachi distributor cap.

yes the dizzy and firing order are set up as stated in your picture got that information off of autodata data base

yes the dizzy and firing order are set up as stated in your picture got that information off of autodata data base also the top of the cap is numbered it will rev but wont idle and when it does rev it misfires up to about 3000revs then clears.

Hi Pete

With a timing light check what the timing is set at ,dizzy could be out of timing .
due to the dizzy being out a few teeth or the timing belt is out .

Check these first ,a very possible issue for your problem .

Hi Greg if i move the dizzy back a tooth it runs flat as a witches tit and won't free rev like the timing is to far retarded and if i move the dizzy a tooth forward the engine has to much pre-ignition and doesn't turn over properly and locks during spinning over.I've had a timing light on it when its running but the notches in the crank pulley are too far left and if i advance the dizzy it just throws them out more in the same direction should the timing be set at the back notch which is red for TDC? as thats where i have it set at the moment.

Timing belt is out ,please check this .

Do you need a timing belt mark diagram .
